My First Blog

Hello out there to everyone in the blogosphere. My name is Steve...Welcome

As they say, every journey begins with a first step. Before I get started, thanks to all the people that have taken the time to share their experiences in life. I just read an article on the 32 steps to blogging. Well, I tend to be somewhat of a contrarian. So at this point, I choose not to limit myself for this site to a specific purpose, other than journaling. It seems a bit presumptuous to think anyone may read or reply, so I'll just amble about until I get my bearings . And, I hope I can provide something of interest. In the meantime, I begin, like so many as a way to have fun, practice share and record parts of my life.

Getting the words from your brain to the page, whether written dictated or typed is different for everyone. Right now. I'm trying something a bit different, and using a dictation software program called Dragon Naturally Speaking. I'm not selling software, but just mention it because this is way faster than typing. It takes some getting used to, but I do agree with their claims of accuracy.

As a start I'll begin with a little bit of background and what brought me to the here and the now. After several years of leading sales teams, I received a welcomed release from my company. After years of blistering nonstop work and travel, I was sure that catching up with reading exercise learning a language writing etc. would be a good healthy way to reclaim some of the lost personal time. I decided to take some time off, reflect and remain open for the wonderful opportunities which guide one's future direction. If you've read the Celestine prophecies or any of the Joel Olstein books. You may be in the camp that sees remaining open as a somewhat passive pursuit. While I agree and enjoy the spiritual theory, I find it difficult to know with any certainty, which direction "open to" is. Feel it, visualize it, network...I envy those who just know what I consider "unknowable". Help the poor, teach, learn, travel, build a business ...all the above?

After a month or so, the stock market seemed to be an interesting pastime and I could do no worse than my Mutual fund. I'm pretty sure I can. The stock market has also proven to be just "unknowable". It is a tremendous learning experience however. I speak not of learning how to "Beat the market" but rather about yourself. You usually begin to understand your risk tolerance and how changing environments can alter your sense of value. Value for what you have, what you need and what existed five minutes ago. Of one thing I am certain, market up or down, the chase is wholly unfulfilling. I mean no disrespect for the professionals out there but for me it's just gotta be more constructive and personal.

As I get used to this blogging stuff. I'll post some pics and provide detail. For now I'll just list a few of my more interesting readings.
